Bachelor's Thesis
Motivation of hospitalized patients for regular exercise through an immersive virtual environment
Abstract
Exergames are (video) games that focus on physical movement. This genre of games is characterized by the fact that the performance in the game depends on the physical performance achieved. Exergames not only promote physical activity in everyday life, but can also have a positive influence on mental health. This also applies to patients in clinical facilities. As part of the bachelor's thesis, an exergame is being developed that is designed to motivate inpatients to exercise. In order to realize this goal, a software is developed with the help of the game engine Unity, which can then be tested on a VR-capable device. In the exergame, players are asked to perform outdoor leisure activities. The aim of the activities is to get patients physically moving and distraction from the physical (clinical) facility. In addition a handful of testers can test the software for usability. Subsequently, an expert opinion will assess the effectiveness of the exergame.
