Abstract

Based on Twitch Plays Pokemon (2014) this thesis analyzes the influence from Communally Controlled Interfaces (CCI) on player need satisfaction. A CCI is an Interface without an individual representation for each of the numerous players interacting with it simultaneously. Emphasis lies on the Self Determination Theory Needs, namely the needs for competence, autonomy and relatedness. To examine the influence of CCI on player need satisfaction, a multiplayer prototype will be implemented. In an experimental setting the prototype will be used for the comparison of traditional multiplayer game mechanics and CCI game mechanics. Based on experimental results conclusions will be drawn on potential use cases for CCI games.
